ERICEIRA
A Blend of Heritage and Surf Culture
Ericeira is a charming fishing village turned world-class surf destination, located on Portugal’s Atlantic coast, just 50 km northwest of Lisbon. This whitewashed town with a laid-back vibe is famous for its golden beaches, dramatic cliffs, and seafood-rich gastronomy. In 2011, Ericeira was designated Europe’s first World Surfing Reserve, recognizing its exceptional waves and pristine coastline.

Surfers from around the world come to Ericeira to experience spots like Ribeira d’Ilhas, known for its powerful right-hand waves, and Praia dos Coxos, which boasts one of the best reef breaks in Portugal. For those not into surfing, Foz do Lizandro and São Julião offer scenic beaches perfect for relaxing and sunbathing.

Beyond the surf culture, Ericeira maintains its authentic fishing village atmosphere, best experienced in the town’s historic center, where narrow streets lead to traditional azulejo-covered houses and lively seafood restaurants. The town’s gastronomy highlights fresh seafood, with specialties like Arroz de Marisco (seafood rice) and Santola Recheada (stuffed spider crab).
