SAGRES

The Last Stop before the Unknown

Sagres, located at the southwestern tip of Portugal, is a rugged and windswept coastal town steeped in maritime history. Often associated with Prince Henry the Navigator, it played a crucial role in Portugal’s Age of Discoveries. Today, it is known for its dramatic cliffs, stunning ocean views, and a wild, unspoiled coastline.

One of Sagres’ most famous landmarks is the Fortaleza de Sagres, a 15th-century fortress that offers fantastic views of the Atlantic. Nearby, Cabo de São Vicente (Cape St. Vincent) is the southwesternmost point of mainland Europe, known for its towering cliffs and one of the most powerful lighthouses in Europe.

Sagres is also a paradise for surfers, hikers, and nature lovers. Beaches like Praia do Tonel and Praia do Beliche offer some of the best surf conditions in the Algarve, while the Vicentine Coast Natural Park provides scenic coastal trails. The region’s cuisine is heavily based on seafood, with specialties such as Percebes (goose barnacles) and Cataplana de Marisco (seafood stew).
