CAFES

Some of our favorite cafés

Padaria Pastelaria da Feira, located in the main square of Freixo, just a 4 km walk from Casa das Descobertas, is one of our favorite spots. This café and bakery offers fresh bread and delicious pastries, making it a perfect destination for our morning walks. It's not only a place to enjoy a coffee and a treat, but also a central meeting point for locals, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that we love to visit regularly.

Café São Sebastião is our local café in Calvelo, where we often have a morning coffee or Pedras. The café is located 2 km from Casa das Descobertas and has a small grocery shop where you can find the most essential kitchen items. The family that runs the café is always positive and smiles, which makes a visit very pleasant.

Panilima Padaria, located on the main street of Ponte de Lima's historic center, is our go-to café whenever we visit. A popular order includes cheese sandwiches, freshly pressed orange juice, the iconic natas, and a cappuccino. You can also purchase fresh bread and pastries to take with you. With several locations in the area, Panilima offers a consistently pleasant experience across all its cafés.

Pastelaria Confeitaria Bijou is our second choice for coffee in Ponte de Lima after Panilima. It is a traditional confectionery with great pastries.

Café A Brasileira in Braga first opened its doors in March 1907, as part of a franchise established by Adolpho de Azevedo, a merchant from Porto and Vice-Consul of Brazil. With its timeless charm and design, the café offers a nostalgic atmosphere that transports visitors to a bygone era. The elegant interior and historic significance make it a must-visit spot for those seeking both a taste of history and a great cup of coffee.

Majestic Café, located in the heart of Porto, is one of the city's most iconic landmarks. Opened in 1921, this Belle Époque-style café is famous for its elegant design, featuring marble-topped tables, large mirrors, and ornate woodwork. A symbol of Porto's rich cultural and artistic history, Majestic Café was once a meeting place for intellectuals, artists, and politicians. Today, it continues to enchant visitors with its old-world charm, serving coffee, pastries, and classic Portuguese dishes in a luxurious setting that transports guests back in time.

Trosabors is a beloved ice cream café in Ponte de Lima, known for its exceptional homemade ice cream in various unique flavors. On hot summer days, it's common to find Marita and Lars here, enjoying a refreshing ice cream cone. With its central location and delicious treats, Trosabors is a favorite stop for locals and visitors alike.

Confeitaria Lopes, just a short drive from Casa das Descobertas on the road to Braga, comes highly recommended by many of our friends as the top spot for take-home pastries. While plenty of great options are nearby, it’s hard to say whether this is correct. Lopes, anyhow, consistently stands out for its quality and variety.

Padaria de Cabaços, located on the far side of Mount Verissimo along the old road to Ponte de Lima, is a must-visit for bakery lovers. If you time your visit just right, you can enjoy the irresistible aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries, still warm from the oven—an experience that truly captures the charm of this local gem
