BEACHES AND RIVERS
Northern Portugal is an exceptional destination for swimming and water sports like windsurfing, kiteboarding, surfing, canoeing, and sailing. The region’s extensive coastline is essentially a continuous stretch of beach, offering countless spots for watersports enthusiasts. However, because the coast faces the Atlantic Ocean, the water remains cool year-round, with summer temperatures rarely exceeding 19°C. For those planning extended time in the ocean, a wetsuit is highly recommended.

For warmer waters, the rivers of Minho provide a fantastic alternative during the summer months. The crystal-clear river water can reach inviting temperatures between 26°C and 28°C, perfect for a more comfortable swim. Minho also offers a variety of river beaches, ranging from wide, tranquil spots to more adventurous settings with scenic waterfalls, ensuring something for every type of swimmer or outdoor enthusiast.
